Fieldcrest Fine Arts Presents a
Japanese Meiji Period Bronze Eagle
A perched eagle with wings spread for flight, consisting of three separate bronze pieces: the rock on which the raptor’s claws grasp; the bird of prey itself; and on the eagle’s feathered back a removable cover piece revealing a hollow interior within the body for hiding coins and/or jewels.

Other than a tiny missing tip of one tail feather, the bronze is in excellent condition; dimensions 26” high by 21” wide at the wingspan.

The bronze is not signed, typical of Japanese Meiji period bronzes (1868-1912).
