This pair of signed bronze bookends, circa 1900, displays a magnificent clipper ship in three dimensions, and on the flat side the sculptor has etched a distinctive lighthouse. The condition is excellent with a fine patina. Each bookend is 6.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide.
American Sculptor Paul Herzel was born in 1876 in Tillowith, Switzerland and emigrated to St. Louis, where he studied at the St. Louis School of Fine arts and later at the Beaux Arts Institute in New York City.
