Christophe Fratin was born in Metz, France. He moved to Paris to study under French sculptor Gericault, and he regularly exhibited at the annual Paris Salons. Horses were always a favorite subject of Fratin.

 

   His smaller bronzes are in many museums, including The Louvre in Paris, the Wallace Collection in London and the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.

 

   His monumental sculptures were commissioned worldwide and the oldest sculpture in New York’s Central Park is his “Two Eagles.”

 

   As one of the acclaimed Animaliers, Fratin specialized in portraying animals romantically, both in spirit and in form. Although a Fratin bronze was made to be viewed as part of the whole, every detail is always anatomically correct.
